Trinity University of Asia (TUA) claims to be one of the best universities in the country as it describes itself in the following: " . . . The University consistenly tops licensure examinations for nurses, medical technologists, and teaches. Now an emerging leader in the education of the country's top artists, computer scientists, bankers, business managers and entrepreneurs." (http://www.tua.edu.ph/abouttua.php)
My only question is: Why has not the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) granted even a single college unit of TUA with the distinction of being a Center of Excellence (COE)or Center of Development (COD)?
I checked the Wikipedia about what COE and COD are according to the CHED:
"Centers of Excellence (COEs) and Centers of Development (CODs) are higher education institutions (HEIs) both public and private which have demonstrated the highest degree or level of standards along the areas of instruction, research and extension. These provide institutional leadership in all aspects of development in specific areas of discipline in the various regions by providing networking arrangements to help ensure the accelerated development of Higher Educational Institutions in their respective service areas.[citation needed]"
As of 4 October 2010, COEs and CODs have been declared by the CHED in the following Philippine universities:

Trinity University of Asia is one of only five universities in the Philippines with current Institutional Accreditation granted by the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP).[2][3] The accreditation has been granted for a period "effective August 2009 up to April 2014".[4] It is also one of few universities in the Philippines that have been granted full autonomous status by CHED "from 6 October 2009 to 5 October 2012".[5][6] As of October 2009, only 44 (2.5%) out of 1,726 higher educational institutions in the Philippines had been granted autonomous status by CHED.[7
Accreditation of Private institutions
Voluntary accreditation of all higher education institutions is subject to the policies of the Commission on Higher Education. Voluntary accrediting agencies in the private sector are the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU), the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities' Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA), and the Association of Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities Accrediting Association Inc. (ACSCU-AAI) which all operate under the umbrella of the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP), which itself is the certifying agency authorized by CHED.[15][16] Accreditation can be either of programs or of institutions.
All of the institutions accredited by these three agencies certified by FAAP are private institutions. Under CHED's Revised Policies and Guidelines on Voluntary Accreditation in Aid of Quality and Excellence and Higher Education, there are four levels of program accreditation, with Level IV being the highest.[13][17]
Two institutions, Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University-Manila were granted Level IV accreditation pursuant to the provisions of CHED Order, CMO 31 of 1995, but their Level IV institutional accreditation lapsed. Ateneo was granted Level IV re-accreditation in 2011.[18]
At present only six universities have current institutional accreditation. Institutional accreditation is the highest certification that can be given to an educational institution after a consideration of the university's number of individual program accreditations and the result of an overall evaluation of the quality of its facilities, services and faculty. These schools are Ateneo de Davao University, Ateneo de Manila University,[18] Ateneo de Naga University, Centro Escolar University, Silliman University and Trinity University of Asia.[19]

I don't intend to disagree on this but I think FEU Eas Asia College should be included in the list of the top mechanical engineering schools in the Philippines.
